How to Find Information Using Discovery

Discovery is the main search interface on the LSC Libraries webpage. This video will show you how to access and search everything at one time. Learn how to filter results and use the tools to interact with content.  [Running time: 3min, 37sec]

This is where your background research really pays off!

All those terms and phrases and ideas you developed before? They all can feed the search for specific information. The more specific, the more relevant.  You have the option of the Find Sources tab which will give you links to specific databases to search. Option 2 is the Discovery search, demonstrated in the video, which opens the entire collection (all databases, books, etc.) for your search. Let me know if you have any questions.

Be sure to consider synonyms for your different search terms so you can swap them out to play with your search. (E.g. "college" but also "university" or "higher education")

Plus, because you did that background research, you're starting off with a clearer idea of what information you need to find. This means you'll know what you need to put in those search fields to narrow it down from the massive and generic
