Interactive Tutorials

These tutorials are un-timed and asynchronous. Students may take them at any time of day and at any point of the semester (aside from any due dates you might impose).

At the end, they will receive a certificate of completion (downloadable pdf - view sample) if they score at least a 70% on the questions.

Library Orientation

Library Orientation (Interactive)
This is a 10-minute introduction to library services with an implicit focus on online-only access. There are required quiz questions included, and a certificate of completion available at the end which students may download.

Plagiarism (Tutorial)
Linked closely to the Plagiarism guide, which is embedded in the tutorial at several points, this tutorial has 13 questions on the broader principles of plagiarism as well as specific practices of when to cite. Certificate provided at the end for completion.
Topic Development Workshop
This tutorial demonstrates the first step in the research process, topic development. Students will learn how to brainstorm their topic, find background information, and develop their research question into a thesis. Certificate provided at the end for completion.
Advanced Search Strategies Workshop
This tutorial includes a recording of the Search Strategies live workshop as well as recap of Boolean operators and other important filters for a database search. Certificate of completion provided at the end (students must score at least 70% for certificate).
Evaluating & Selecting Information Sources (Tutorial)
Walks user through identifying key elements of a scholarly article, a bad web article, and an ambiguous encyclopedia page from the database. Certificate provided at the end for completion.
Reading a Scholarly Research Article (Tutorial)
This tutorial walks through analyzing and reading a scholarly article to decide whether to use as a source, starting with the abstract and intro, jumping to the conclusion, and also taking a look at the article references. Certificate provided at the end for completion.
