3.5 Paying attention to the man behind the curtain: Getting Started

“Evil Wizard Blackthorne is a most evil wizard!” the little man pipes.

“Yeah, got that from the name,” you say. “What is Fairy Tale Land?”

“It’s where we are exiled after people stop believing in us,” the little woman answers finally. She shoots you a disgruntled look, like it’s your personal fault that she’s there. “It’s all cheery and light.”

You look at the pink sky and the aggressively perfect clouds floating overhead. They look like a scene from your favorite comic book, Lumberjanes.

“Evil Wizard Blackthorne is an evil human who came here as a child. We welcomed him at first, but then he started learning dark magic. Now the world is being corrupted by his evilness.”

“Is that a word?” you interrupt. Holding up a hand, you say, “Sorry, sorry. Go on.”

“As I was saying,” the little woman continues with a glare, “his corruption is taking over. Soon there will be no room for any of us, just spiders and wolves and dire sloths.”

“Dire sloths?” you ask. 

“The slowest, but darkest, of sloths,” the little man intones solemnly.
