Big changes are coming for Fall 2023.
Hello, Discovery Tool
What's a "discovery tool"? Think of it like a search engine for library resources. This means no more searching multiple separate databases! Look for everything all in one spot and filter as needed, such as online full text or scholarly articles.
The search box is embedded on the library website, but you can also go directly into it via...
Goodbye, EBSCO (Many, But Not All)
Many of the databases LSC Libraries subscribe to are via the TexShare program - a Texas library consortium that creates a discounted package of standard databases that libraries across Texas can subscribe to. With this 5-year contract period, TexShare has shifted to focus on Gale databases rather than the majority EBSCO databases we've had. You can learn more from them about that on their website.
We have asked for the funds to subscribe to key EBSCO databases to maintain access, particularly Academic Search Complete!
With the addition of the discovery service, our precise selection of databases will matter less, but the LSC Library Technical Services department and the Libraries database committee have worked to figure out options to retain access to the most amount of content we're all accustomed to.
We also have a spreadsheet mapping the lost EBSCO databases to their equivalent Gale and ProQuest collections. (However, again, with our new discovery tool, these individual collections should be less important to refer students to searching the online library materials.)
