Online, Distance, & Dual-Credit Students: Use the Library Remotely

So, you're not on campus for this class! What can you do?

PowerNotes

The library is offering free premium access to PowerNotes to LSC-UP students and employees!

PowerNotes is a web clipper for academic research. It lets you save notes and comments from anything you can open in your browser, whether it's a website, library database, e-textbook, video, and so on. It encourages you to organize your clips into topics as you work -- so by the time you're done, you have a project outline with all your sources!

Office 365 (supported by OTS)

Lone Star College students have free access to Office 365! You can use both the cloud-based versions of Office software as well as downloadable/installable version. Just go to

and follow the prompts to enter your myLoneStar username and access.

Besides apps like Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher (and more), you also get 1 TB (one terabyte) of storage in OneDrive with your school account.

Pulse by Brightspace

Navigate your D2L classes on your phone easily with the Pulse app from Brightspace. It even pops up alerts on your phone as new announcements and emails come in so you can stay on top of things.

Brainfuse (supported by LSC-Online)

Access Brainfuse from myLoneStar by clicking the LSC Online tile, then the Online Tutoring tile.

Brainfuse will open in a new tab. You have 3 major options to choose from its homepage.

Brainfuse menu, with Live Help, Tutor Match, and Writing Lab choices

  • Live Help - connects you with a Brainfuse-employed tutor. Notice that you can also just submit a question without having a live session. Live 24/7 access.
  • Tutor Match - connects you to an LSC tutor via scheduled appointment. Access limited to staffing hours.
  • Writing Lab - submit a paper to be reviewed. You are limited to 2 papers per semester with this service. (You can come to the campus Writing Lab as many times as you want, though!)

IntelliWriter (supported by LSC-Online)

IntellWriter is a tool to help you with your grammar, writing style, and citations. It's included in all D2L classes. Your professors may decide to integrate it more visibly with assignments they post, but you can always find it under the Collaboration tab.

You can create documents directly in IntelliWriter or upload saved documents. Unfortunately, there's not a plugin to let you access its features directly in Word or in text fields in your browser around the internet.
