Mike Alose, who runs the Science Hotspot, was one of four LSC-University Park staff selected to receive a Staff Excellence Award this year!
What's he do back there in his corner? Excellent work, obviously-- including mentoring his peer coaches, putting together data reports for Coaching, sometimes getting a chance to create and edit videos as well as run the @tutorlscup Instagram account, in addition to all the day-to-day things to keep the Hotspot going. He's a fantastic go-to resource for all things Academic Coaching!
Previous SLRC employees to receive Excellence awards include: Arcelia Macedo (SLRC), Blaire Hiebsch (Library), Stephanie DeLeon (Library), Elaine Patton (Library), Leasha May (AT Lab), Sibgha Khan (Library).
The winners of the 2023 Second Life for Books are recognized for their recycled book creations, selected by voters. The theme for this year’s book art was book bans.
The 1st place artist is Usman Khan, whose piece Freedom, Imprisonment: It’s all an Illusion speaks to the influences experienced by LGBTQ+ students as they search for their place in the world.
The 2nd place art is titled The Hunger Games for the 2014 banned book by the same title. Art student Luna Chavez won 3rd place for Not All Boys Are Blue.
