Fake News: Getting Started

What is Fake News?

The term fake news has gained popularity in the last few years, but the concept of it is not new.  Hoaxes, satire, and propaganda are all examples of misleading or completely untrue information. Other examples you may have encountered include tabloids, clickbait articles, or articles from highly partisan organizations and sources.

While misinformation is a result of error and can be considered an honest mistake, disinformation is false information that is created with the intent to mislead.
