ENGL 2311: Technical Communication (Boston): Research Process

ENGL 2311 | Prof. Kristie Boston (Summer 2021)

Research Process

Research process steps, from narrowing your topic, developing your argument, and producing your drafts

Before You Research

Scholarly articles are not the place to start your research. First, you need to get familiar enough with your topic that you can start to narrow it down, and for that you need more general information. This will help you develop context for your topic as well as get to know the specialized terms used by experts.

Capture Keywords

List of possible search terms for domestic violence and sports

Choose pen and paper or open an app to make a list of key terms you discover as you read about your topic. Searching for additional information becomes easier with alternate search terms -- and they may even help you find new things to think about!
